Hilhorst en Kang Architectural Design and Research is a collaboration platform of two architects, who are based in the Netherlands and South Korea. Wouter Hilhorst is a Dutch registered architect and university lecturer at the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology. He is also a principal of Atelier Wouter Hilhorst (www.atelierwouterhilhorst.com), a Rotterdam based architect’s studio. He graduated at Delft University of Technology in 2000. Before starting his own office he has worked for several architect’s offices including Rapp+Rapp in Rotterdam, where he met Hyukjin Kang in 2009. Hyukjin Kang is a Korean registered architect and professor at the Department of Architecture at Korea National University of Transportation. He is also directing M-lab (www.mlabstudio.kr). Before he got the position at the university in 2012, he had worked for architect’s offices- Wondoshi architect’s group and Samoo Architects and Engineers. He got a bachelor and master degree at Inha university and got a MSc in architecture at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2008 and completed his Phd study at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Seoul National University in 2017.
Since 2013, these two architects have been collaborating in various ways, including ‘Inhouse-Internships’ (for students of Korea National University of Transportation and of Saga University, Japan), international design workshops, international design competitions, seminars, design experiments, etc. In 2021, the two architects have agreed to set up this platform for archiving the projects they did and establishing a gateway for future opportunities.
힐호스트앤강 건축디자인리서치는 네덜란드와 한국 건축가의 협력 플래폼입니다. 바우터 힐호스트는 네덜란드 건축사이며, 아인트호벤 공대 건축학부 전임강사이기도 합니다. 그는 또한 네덜란드 로테르담에 소재한 아틀리에 바우터 힐호스트 (www.atelierwouterhilhorst.com)의 대표이기도 합니다. 그는 2000년 델프트 공대에서 건축학석사를 취득하였고, 그 후 다양한 건축사사무소에서 일을 해왔으며 2009년 로테르담의 랍앤랍 사무실에서 두 건축가가 만나게 됩니다. 강혁진은 한국 및 네덜란드 건축사이며 국립한국교통대학교 건축학전공 교수이며 엠랩 (www.mlabstudio.kr)의 디렉터이기도 합니다. 2012년 교수로 임용되기 전에 원도시건축과 삼우설계에서 실무를 하였습니다. 그는 인하대학교에서 학부와 석사과정을 마쳤고, 실무 도중 2008년 아인트호벤 공대에서 건축학석사를 취득하였습니다. 그는 또한 2017년 서울대 환경대학원 박사과정을 수료하였습니다.
2013년부터 이 두 건축가는 인하우스 인턴쉽, 국제디자인워크숍, 국제설계공모, 세미나, 디자인실험 등 다양한 협력작업을 해왔습니다. 2021년에 두 건축가는 이 플랫폼을 구축하기로 하였으며 이를 통해 기존 작업을 공유 공개하며 미래의 다양한 협력기회의 장을 마련하고자 하였습니다.
